Ruthlessby Carolyn Lee Adams

Publisher: Simon Pulse

Release Date: July 14th 2015

Genre: Young Adult, Thriller, Contemporary, Mystery
Synopsis:
A spine-tingling debut about the ultimate game of cat-and-mouse in reverse as a teen struggles to retain hope—and her sanity—while on the run from a cunning and determined killer.
Ruth Carver has always competed like her life depends on it. Ambitious. Tough. Maybe even mean. It’s no wonder people call her Ruthless.
When she wakes up with a concussion in the bed of a moving pickup trick, she realizes she has been entered into a contest she can’t afford to lose.
At a remote, rotting cabin deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Ruth’s blindfold comes off and she comes face-to-face with her captor. A man who believes his mission is to punish bad girls like Ruth. A man who has done this six times before.
The other girls were never heard from again, but Ruth won’t go down easy. She escapes into the wilderness, but her hunter is close at her heels. That’s when the real battle begins. That’s when Ruth must decides just how far she’ll go in order to survive.
Back home, they called her Ruthless. They had no idea just how right they were.

Ruthless from the very first paragraph grabs the reader and takes off running. Ruth Carver is a force to be reckoned with. She is a champion horse rider and works hard to stay on top. When we first meet her, she is in the back of a truck with no idea where she is or where the truck is going.  The person driving we come to know as Wolfman is taking her up to his secluded cabin. He plans to teach her a lesson and intends to break her both physically and mentally to get his point across. She has met him before, he used to work at her parents barn until his creepy leering got to be a bit too much for her and she had her parents fire him. What is clear to Ruth is that she must do whatever she can to survive.  She has to somehow get free and get out of there to civilization and find help.

This books breakneck pace was awesome! I was thoroughly creeped out by Ruth’s captor and my heart was in my throat for much of the novel.  It made me glad I was safe at home in my bed reading this book. A word to the wise; however; this book is not for the faint of heart. There is violence and unsavory parts being that….well….a  crime is being committed! So, if you don’t have the stomach or the guts for it don’t read it. If you are brave enough though I suggest definitely reading! You will not be sorry and I believe after finishing you will come away breathless! I give this book a solid 4 out of 5.
