First of all thanks for visiting my blog! I’m Tarah (yes, that girl above with the goofy grin) and 30 yearold total book geek! As I am sure you have asked yourself as soon as this picture loaded for you..how is it shes in her Thirties? She looks like she couldn’t be older then twelve!
Well, its, true I am indeed the age that I say I am. I was born with a form of dwarfism called Osteogenesis Imperfecta or brittle bone disease. So, that is the reason for the young looking appearance that I am sure I will appreciate more when I am older.
I don’t break bones as often as I used. When I was younger below the age of ten especially I would break quite often and through this experience I came to love books. No matter what bone I ever broke I could usually still hold a book and they were great at always helping me forget what I was going through and transporting me somewhere else in my imagination. My favorites growing up were pretty much the classics..Mrs Piggle Wiggle (she’d put nanny Mcphee to shame) and the Babysitters Club etc.
Having OI can also be a blessing too because from 1993-2000 I was part of the child cast of Sesame Street (below is a video of me from the show. It certainly made for an interesting and not to mention fun childhood!
In the fall of 2004 I took a magazine writing class at the college I was attending and though that class was fun I learned more from the teacher then just writing. One day she saw me bring in with my notebooks The Other Woman by Jane Green and after class she told me she had read it too and we discussed it a bit. The best part of the conversation ,however, was she told me that she worked for Kirkus Reviews and she was sent books to review! I thought the whole idea of actually having a JOB reading books was awesome and I was interested learning more. With some research and practice working with other people in the niche on their blogs I gained experience.
One day I hope for this blog to reach a ton of people and really help those looking to make smart purchase decisions within the YA genre. With the economy the way it is today not a penny can be wasted!
Hey everyone! My name is Cress. I’m so excited to be joining the team here at YA Obsessed! My hope here at my newfound happy place is that by sharing with you some of the gems I’ve found, from new and established authors alike, it will in turn encourage you to pick up a(nother!) book and maybe give something new a chance.
Here’s a little about me:
Born in Minnesota, I now reside in southern Mississippi with my husband and two fur-babies. I am an aspiring author and avid YA enthusiast. My husband and I have been on again off again piecing together our own little bit of the literary world for the past few years. My personal love of the written word began at a much younger age and peaks every November. Nanowrimo time!
Today, as a young adult myself, I am most drawn to YA. Why? Why not? It’s about resolution. Friendship. Trouble. First love. Fitting in. Identity. And so much more. I enjoy books that give you something new to think about, put a different spin on something not so new, or promote self worth. Literature will always be an important part of my life.
I’m looking forward to this new adventure with my sister Tarah and you, fellow reader! I can’t wait to share my bookshelves with you! See you out there!
